How 20K Apiaries Are Changing Lives Across Central Kenya

When we launched the Wonderful Wild Bee Farming Project, our goal was clear: empower rural youth and women to build sustainable livelihoods. One of the most ambitious targets was the rollout of 20,000 apiary starter kits across Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Murang’a, and Machakos counties.

Each kit includes a Langstroth hive, a bee suit, gloves, a smoker, and a training manual. But more importantly, it comes with ongoing mentorship and access to buyers—bridging the gap between small-scale farmers and profitable markets.
The impact has been profound:
- Jane from Embu used her first hive to earn enough to buy a second. Now she mentors other women in her village.
- Peter from Murang’a turned an unused corner of his family’s compound into a thriving micro-apiary that supports his university education.
With every hive installed, we’re not just producing honey—we’re cultivating confidence, resilience, and self-reliance.
